About Dr Matthew Street
Dr Street is an orthopaedic surgeon that specialises in knee surgery, focusing on joint reconstruction, ligament reconstruction and sports orthopaedic surgery.
He completed his BSc and MBBCh at the University of the Witwatersrand. He then undertook his internship in Pietermaritzburg, and community service in Ermelo, Mpumalanga.
Thereafter he returned to Johannesburg to do his orthopaedic training and obtained his fellowship with the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Next he did a knee fellowship at the Linksfield Sports and Rehabilitation Centre, and also at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.
He worked as a consultant in the Sports Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, where he gained further knowledge and experience in treating complex knee and sports injuries.
Today, Dr Streets works between 2 private practices in Johannesburg. He is also an associate lecturer and consultant for the Sports and Knee Unit at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.
He has travelled to many centres across Europe to connect with international leaders in the field of knee surgery, including the well renowned School of Knee Surgery in Lyon.
He has been involved in several publications dealing with orthopaedic topics and has taken part in numerous presentations at congresses.
He matriculated at St Johns College where his passion for sport was first consolidated. His love for sport saw him representing South Africa at age group level cricket. The highlight of this was becoming Captain of the U19 cricket team at the inaugural World Tournament held in South Africa. He also represented Gauteng in first class and list A cricket for many years after leaving school.
Dr Streets is now a keen golfer and enjoys trail running.
