About Merlicia Cronje

Merlicia Cronje is part of the team of excellence at the Centre of Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics in Rosebank, Johannesburg.

At CSMO, Merlicia forms part of a team of Orthopaedic surgeons, Sports-Medicine Physicians, Physiotherapists, Musculoskeletal Sonographers and Biokineticists to ensure all-inclusive medical experience.

She studied at the University of Pretoria where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Radiography in 2007.  As part of her studies at TUKS she obtained a Diploma in Mammography.  She then decided to further her studies at the University of Johannesburg and graduated with a postgraduate Bachelor’s degree of Technology in Ultrasound in 2013.

Her tutor then, Beverly Roos, which has become a colleague and dear friend introduced musculoskeletal ultrasound to her, which turned into a great passion for Merlicia.  She worked at various Radiology departments and then in 2018 decided to open her own practise in the east of Pretoria, Ultrasound Scan, with a special interest in sport related injuries and orthopaedics as well as general diagnostic scans.

She is passionate about her work and thrives in sharing her knowledge.  She is part of the musculoskeletal ultrasound training at the Wits Sport and Health Institute.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking, travelling, dancing, photography, music, arts, and crafts and most all, socialising and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Merlicia is a creative person and believes that “Ultrasound is an art of science”; where 3-dimensional images are created cognitively, from real-time imaging, to develop a canvas of anatomy.
